Eye Remember is a visual journey through the minds and lives of several Harlem teenagers. Collaging together the shards of their memories, these young people create a quiet and powerful portrait of childhood, ranging from happy days on the basketball court to frightened nights where gunshots crack back and forth outside their windows. Accompanying their scattered recollections are a rich collection of images layered against an evocative background of lights, streets, nighttime in Harlem, children, and faces-faces that appear in extreme close-up. These portraits in particular offer an intimate depth, one that allows the viewer to peer beyond the immediate surface level that is offered, and into a history of the hearts and souls that carry these memories. Through the combination of these elements, we are given a brief glimpse of the struggles these young people face, as well as the hope they have cultivated to help them overcome those struggles.
