Synopsis
Growing up in an affluent suburb in the United States where 'good' is synonymous with 'normal,' open-minded attitudes are more of an ideal than a reality. Sam and Kyle, both 21, have been best friends since grade school in suburban Massachusetts. From an early age, they have been visiting the same lakeside campsite. When Sam comes up from New York City to meet Kyle in their hometown for a routine visit, it seems like an average weekend of heavy drinking and camping. But Sam has a secret that he is finally willing to share with his friend: he is gay.UNFAMILIAR FACES follows the story of two friends who struggle to maintain their friendship despite having broken each other's trust. Sam is confronted with the fear of losing his best friend, while Kyle must act appropriately in a situation to which he has never been exposed. In his attempt to diffuse the situation by distancing himself from Sam, Kyle betrays his own latent homophobia and discomfort, despite having known Sam his whole life. Even in this progressive age, homophobia is deeply ingrained in our society and has not nearly been erased. |
